During September a friend's Australian Shepherd bitch Rev came to visit. (The younger dogs in her family were going camping!) I've known Rev since she was a puppy. She's about 10 now. I'm quite fond of her. She was a little overweight and recovering from leg surgery, but still eager to go out and explore once she got the routine of being an only dog down.
During her visit I thought I'd do a series of paintings, but with my demonstration coming up at the end of the month I picked up the Graphitints. I ended up making a loose-leaf journal of her stay. The single sheets are 8 1/2 x 11 inch bright white drawing paper that comes in the "Canadian Sketchbook." The loose pages have been trimmed of their binding holes and await the construction of a portfolio. When making this series of drawings (several of which I've posted here) I kept my pencil selection to three colors. Typically I tried to use analogous colors. At other times I used two analogous colors and one complement or near complement. It took some time to get used to the dome-like head and fluffy ear flaps. But it was a great pleasure to have a life model in the house again. |
