We've had an unpleasantly hot summer this year. Even in early June we had temperatures in the 90s. Despite that I managed to go out sketching with my friend Diane. She's a landscape painter so I'm sort of hoping it will rub off on me!
It hasn't yet, but here we sat on a dock on Bald Eagle Lake and I tried to work out a way to picture the mass and mess of lily pads on the water, curling up in the heat, and the distant shore.
This journal is made with Arches Text Wove and while you can typically see heavy ink lines from the previous page I so love working on this paper that I've decided it doesn't matter. Because it is a thin paper I can make books with many signatures but little thickness. Also it takes watercolor and gouache nicely. And even though it has a slight texture to it I love writing on it. Visual journals I make with this paper tend to be filled with writing and I like that.
