We continued to explore the gardens. In one corner we found an entire garden of pear trees trained to grow flatly up a fence (there's a word for this that escapes me). Some of the trees were several hundred years old. They were all beautiful.
Nearby there was an apiary where the beekeeper was actually showing a crowd honeycomb (we didn't go over there). And not far from there groups of men (and a few women) were playing pick-up games of boule (boules?), a lawn bowling type of game. It was a beautiful area for people to enjoy |
