This necklace is made using freeform brick stitch. I used a variety of glass beads in all shapes and sizes, the smallest being 15/0 seed beads. The color choice started with the vintage German glass beads in odd shades: orange (dangles and flat, two-holed squares) and green (cubes).
I had wanted to experiment with brick stitch for some months, but kept changing my mind at the last moment when starting new projects. Then my mother visited, wearing a simple gold, articulated band around her neck. I thought, wouldn't it be fun to create a freeform piece that sat on the collar bone and neckline like that. And it was.
The open aspect of the freeform work makes this an extremely light weight piece that, despite its hugging nature is not at all claustrophobic to wear.
