Painting outside can be fun, but there are definite drawbacks and in Minnesota I would rate mosquitos first, way above the annoyance level of ticks. I did this sketch in Derwent Drawing Pencils (various colors) with washes of watercolor. It's the trunk of a spruce tree on the neighbor's property. Hint: it's always best to stand in the bright sunlight when you are trying to avoid mosquitos, which of course is bad news if you don't like to stand in the bright sunlight! This is on another scrap of watercolor paper: Portofino, a hot press watercolor paper from Magnani.
