journal page

This close up shows several of the loose journal pages I made on my antiquing and art gallery trip to Madison, WI. I used 300 lb. hot press watercolor paper. I prepainted some of the cards before leaving so that I would have interesting backgrounds for collage. On this trip I also took rubbing paper and crayon to capture textures. I was traveling with a group of 4 others with whom I'd never traveled before. I wasn't sure if I would have much time to sketch. The rubbings were a way for me to capture quick "ephemera." My favorite sketch is of the stuffed wart hog I found in the first antique shop we visited. He sat high atop an 8-foot shelf forcing me to draw from an angle I'm not used to.
