This sketch is also made on the same day as the Ostrich sketch (previous image; page 11). Feet frozen from standing on the cold, snowless ground (I did prepare by wearing long johns, I just didn't have on my heavy boots), I wandered into the Primate House.

This is an ink sketch with watersoluble colored pencil wash. The monkey sat posed above me on a rock ledge for the longest time and finally I decided I had to sketch him. I didn't think I would have much time. He got up and left just as I was starting to paint. The Lion's Cover paper has a unique texture with fibers forming random "nubby" bits. It makes for interesting line work and wash. The Barcham Green paper mill makes such wonderful papers. I wonder why they went down? Just like me to search my whole life for the perfect paper and find several delightful ones after the mill closes!
