During the Minnesota winters most of the animals at the Como Zoo are kept inside in barn- like structures. Animals of each species are rotated to a small viewing area where visitors come. The zebra and giraffes share the same building.

On this day it was too cold to draw outside. I watched the Zebra eat for awhile and then sketched the giraffe. Sadly, a few days after this visit the giraffe took suddenly ill and died. He was relatively young and they had hopes to breed him to another giraffe.

See the carving I made based on the sketch of the giraffe.
